Balancing S48-100LFP STACK-LV Units.

Modified on Mon, 19 Oct at 2:45 PM

This procedure can be used to balance a battery bank that is out of balance or to balance a bank that is being commisioned This is writen assuming that there are eight units and are assembled as per the installation instructions.

Isolate the Batteries

  1. Ensure all units are turned off.

  2. Manually turn off each battery using the power switch on the back of each unit.

  3. Remove the internal RS-485 communication connections from the back of the batteries.

  4. Reconfigure each battery's DIP switches so that every battery is configured as Battery 1:

    • Switch 1: ON

    • Switches 2–4: OFF

  5. Disconnect the communication cable between the battery bank and the inverter.

Charge All Batteries Individually in Parallel

  1. Power up the system and begin charging all eight batteries using the inverter/chargers and generator power. Solar power can also be used, but charging will take considerably longer and is not ideal for this procedure.

  2. Charge all eight batteries to 100% state of charge (SOC).

Assuming eight batteries are installed and the system provides at least 100 amps of total DC charging current, allow approximately 4–6 hours for charging. Actual charging time will depend on the batteries' initial SOC, available charging current, and charging conditions.

    Before proceeding, verify that:

    • All eight batteries indicate 100% SOC.

    • The voltage readings of all eight batteries are within 0.3 VDC of one another.

Restore Battery Communication and Configuration

  1. Shut down the system.

  2. Turn off all switches and breakers before making any further changes.

  3. Reconfigure the DIP switches on each battery to establish the correct battery addresses, assigning Batteries 1 through 8 in the required sequence.

  4. Reconnect the internal RS-485 communication connections between the batteries.

  5. Reconnect the battery communication cable to the inverter and restore the system's normal closed-loop communication configuration.

Restart and Verify Operation

  1. Turn on the switches and breakers and power up the Sol-Ark inverter, following the manufacturer's recommended startup sequence.

  2. Test the system and verify normal operation.
